In todays article, we spoke to the CEO of StudyAbroadWestAfrica , Akua Konadu Kusi; an Education Enthusiast, International Regional Marketer And Talent Sourcing Expert.Enjoy this piece!
Akua Konadu Kusi is a past student of the Holy Child School holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
She also holds a Masters in International Business from the Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff (Wales). The name of my business is called Study Abroad West Africa .This organization has its grassroots as a full fledged african consultancy dedicated to working with applicants from West Africa to secure them scholarship based admissions into established universities in UK,Malaysia,India,Ukraine,China,USA and Canada.
Akua had experience working in UK under International Tertiary Admissions as “regional marketer and talent sourcing expert for close to three years. With this experience she moved back to Ghana believing it was going to easy getting jobs in any reputable company.but the feedback from most jobs she sought for had “no” And “overqualified”.with this backlash i decided to use the experience and networking i had from UK to start #StudyAbroadWestAfrica.
She recounts starting with just UK as my only country and through three years have added six more countries with over seven universities in each of the six countries.
When asked about the vision, the purpose and the way forward as a Young Entrepreneur, this was Akua’s response.
“..The vision is to provide any West African the ability to get exposed to western education to increase and expand their networks in life.
This experience should be a basic need for every potential student hence the need for partial scholarships. This intention also serves as my purpose to able to use my network to elevate most West Africans and to build the best alumni networks. If not the best one of the great alumni networks.
The way forward as a young entrepreneur , is to learn, experience, build and expand her organization…”
The reason for me setting up my business was initially due to the fact that I needed work to do but then had it all wrong when it got tough.’..what has pulled me through till date is the passion and the inner joy you receive when you change someones route in life or simply put change in destiny due to the platform I has.
The thought of fulfilling peoples dream and being a destiny changer has now been my drive and the sole reason for setting up this company.
According to Victor E. Frankl in “MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING”, he makes it clear that if you chase after success you will never feel and see it because human beings are never satisfied but once you go along the way and you forget about suceess it inadvertently becomes a by product of what you doing.
I will say my motivation will be the strive to become better at what i do with each passing day.to be a better version of my self and to be a game changer.
I in addition to my team have been able to secure partnerships with seven countries (seven universities in the UK,one in Malaysia, ten in Ukraine, seven in China, seven in USA,one in India and lastly one in Canada). We have secured over 150 students to the above countries from West Africa.since its incorporation in 2015/2016 SAWA has been able to expand to other African countries including Senegal,Cameroon and Nigeria.
My long term goal at SAWA is to help over 1000 brilliant students secure 20-50% scholarship based admissions into established universities every year.
The impact SAWA seeks to make on the market.
Basically what every brand wants,is to create a change and be dynamic in the global market. That is what we plan day in and day out tailoring our strategies to create a bigger impact in the global market.
We face a lot of challenges what will keep you afloat is proper management and proper budgeting.
Basically, most businesses face these challenges.
Cash flow management : Part of the problem stems from delayed invoicing ,which is common in the entrepreneurial world.
Time management : Entrepreneurs that wear many hats are faced with this problem.
Delegating tasks : When you outsource task or delegate it seems everytime you do something gets messed up and one has to redo it.
Capital : growing your business when you have little capital.
Self doubt:Mostly occurs at the beginning stage when you not growing as fast as you would like.
Akua Konadu’s thoughts about entrepreneurship in Ghana
I believe that a lot of Ghanaians do have brilliant ideas but are actually scared to come out of their shell. I believe is mostly due to income security and stability. The thought of not getting the usual monthly salary at the end of the month becomes a problem. Most people will rather be more secured than to strive for what they are passionate about.
The few that manage to come out of their shell to execute their ideas soar really well because first there is no competition and most entreprenuers will use this opportunity to conquer half the market and soar using this advantage.
I do believe a lot of young entrepreneurs are coming out more than before so i believe there is progress now.
Ghanatalks will like to extend our profound gratitude to the whole #SAWA team especially, Alfred McKenzie and the CEO herself, Akua Konadu Kusi.
